Join us! 1 PhD Opening at CCNY’s DEgIDAL

We are excited to welcome at the DEgIDAL one (1) PhD student starting in Fall ’26. This is a separate (additional) PhD opportunity that is different from the one announced on Virtual Power Plant Battery research (more about that here).
DEgIDAL is part of the Dept. of Electrical Engineering (EE) at the City College of the University of New York (ranked 4th behind the top world colleges in the value of the EE degree). The student receives 3-year (at least) guaranteed funding (at the highest research assistant rate) and 5 years of tuition coverage.
Successful applicants must demonstrate (via transcripts or peer-reviewed publications) strong power systems and electric machines background (transient state, vector control, power electronics) and some coding experience (preferably in artificial intelligence – AI).
The main area of research for the candidate will be digital twins and AI-assisted control for grid stability & security with high penetrations of renewables. As renewables displace conventional generation, instability will propagate faster, thus, only artificial intelligence and machine learning may identify efficiently such risks. Some experience in Inverter Based Resources will be a preferred skill.
To express your interest send an email to: {pmoutis [@] ccny [do7] cuny [do7] edu} with subject line: “(applicant name) – interest in PhD at the CCNY DEgIDAL.” Communications not following the above format might be filtered, so, please follow this guideline.
